Just an hour train ride away from one of the fashion capitals of the world (Milan), lies the azure green waters, immense mountains and colourful clusters of pretty buildings…. welcome to Lake Como!
On the edge of the lapping waters, sits the luxurious Filario Hotel & Residences. So elegant and charming with panoramic views stretching over the lake as the mountains meet the horizon. My sister and I had the pleasure of staying in this chic hotel for a few days, so please keep reading for an insight into the first half of our trip to the beautiful Lake Como…
Hopping off the bus (which we wouldn’t recommend doing unless you don’t mind being squished up against a window – opt for the ferry instead), we found the discreet, sleek entrance to Filario, and from the road this is all that is visible. In an instant, we were greeted by warm smiles at the front desk and post check-in, the chic design and furnishings really imposed their elegance. That was until I saw the double doors offering incredible and uninterrupted views over the lake which then took centre stage….
As the hotel cascades down the mountain, the lovely receptionist showed us down to our room (I love the quirkiness of this upside-down layout). As she opened the door to welcome us into our chic and elegant room, excitement rose through us – this ultra modern pad was about to be our room for the next few days! With a sleek bathroom hosting an in-built rainfall shower and Culti toiletries, everything oozed luxury. Aside from the impeccable design, the pièce de résistance was of course our sizeable balcony with breathtaking, panoramic lake views.
We made full use of the water activities available at Filario Hotel, completely free of charge (note: you have to book in at reception for an hour at a time). One morning, we had such an entertaining time attempting to kayak, which from the outset was rocking everywhere but boy did we have fun! It was also refreshing to experience the lake from a different perspective.
Nights at Filario Hotel & Residences were amazing; we’d sleep with our balcony door open, so whilst lying in bed, soaked in the luxurious Culti moisturiser lying on the softest sheets, the faint sound of jazz music would dance through our balcony door with a cool but gentle breeze as we drifted off to sleep.
On our last morning at Filario Hotel & Residences, we woke early to embrace the peace that early mornings offer and hired out the hotel’s paddle boards. Have you ever paddle boarded? Well I hadn’t and little did I know how much it would challenge my balance! It took a huge dose of concentration but the end result was such a serene experience with magical views as the morning mist was just lifting over the lake. Moreover, I’d ticked off something I’d always wanted to try (and it won’t be the last time either!).
After starting the morning in such a beautiful way, we continued the positivity through with a delicious breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant, which may I add, very kindly catered for my sisters awkward dietary requirements. So to top off one of the most idyllic mornings – we ended our stay at Filario Hotel & Residences with a splash in one of the most stunning infinity pools I’ve seen.
To sum up our delightful stay in Filario Hotel & Residences, my sister and I had a wonderful time full of luxury, elegance and unbelievable views.
