Stamford is a gorgeous town in Lincolnshire, full of character and stunning scenery – although I’ve managed to tick off a fair few places in the UK (I think it’s important to appreciate and experience your own country as well as holidaying abroad); I hadn’t ever had the delight of venturing there until now!
My best friend and I had the pleasure of staying at two quirky, luxurious hotels during our time in Stamford. Our first night was spent at The William Cecil, a fantastic country hotel full of charm; let me tell you all about it…
The William Cecil
Our time in Stamford commenced with a delightful afternoon tea at The William Cecil, as they offer such a plethora of different Gins, it seems only appropriate that their afternoon tea is G & T inspired. So we munched on cakes, scones, macaroons and sandwiches all with hints of refreshing aromas you’d find in your favourite G & T such as lemon, lime and cucumber. It was so elegantly presented and was packed full of heavenly flavours; we had a very enjoyable afternoon and there couldn’t have been a more perfect spot for an afternoon tea than the The William Cecil’s beautiful garden.

Our room at The William Cecil was so grand, hosting a four poster bed which proudly took centre stage – and of course, was extremely comfy! The building dates back to the 17th century so the carefully selected furniture mirrored this style period with sheer opulence, including a very beautiful freestanding bath. My favourite part of our room was the double doors leading out to our own private patio and garden, so come morning I enjoyed a very satisfying coffee (made from the coffee machine in our room), on the terrace with the sun gleaming over the lawn.
We enjoyed our breakfast outside in the morning sun and like all of the Hillbrooke hotels, there was a buffet with fruits, yoghurts, pastries etc that you can help yourself to as well as ordering something specific from their enticing menu. With quite a sweet tooth, I opted for a waffle and fruit whilst my best friend enjoyed Eggs Royale.

The Bull & Swan
Our next evening was spent at the Bull & Swan which is also full of classical English enchant, and with just 9 rooms, feels very intimate and personable. On first impressions, you may think you’ve entered into a beautiful traditional pub, but head outside to their ‘pub garden’ and it’ll become clear that there’s definitely more to this lovely Hillbrooke hotel than what it may seem. Outside you’ll find a garden cinema and a pizza potting shed! Quirky luxury at it’s best!
On to our room, and again like at The William Cecil, we were taken aback at the lavish decor and grand ambiance our room gave, presenting such carefully designed furnishings which were full of character, a beautiful fireplace and an impressive bathroom with a rain forest shower. I just wanted to take photos of everything!

The Garden Cinema & Pizza Potting Shed
Imagine this, you’ve got pizza in one hand, Prosecco in the other, you’re outside in a garden cinema with your best friend, watching your all time favourite film. Pretty cool huh!? This is exactly what we were revelling in during our stay at the Bull & Swan. We had timed it so that whilst we were there, our favourite film Grease was being screened in their garden cinema; we were singing and dancing to all our favourite tunes, as were so many people – it was great fun! They show a different film every Thursday night throughout the summer and it’s completely free entry. We had such a fabulous evening and this was the highlight of the trip for me; if I lived in Stamford, I can assure you that I would clear my diary for every Thursday night – as it was such a special not-to-be-missed experience!

Stamford Town
Stamford is an idyllic town with every last street just as beautiful as the next with small boutiques, fashionable coffee shops and buzzing bars – a real must visit. We also enjoyed a little picnic by the river in the meadow which was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Stamford – you were such a delight!
